Following on from the hugely successful inaugural Irish Executives Summit held in Galway this September, Irish businesses at home and abroad have offered €150,000 worth of in-kind business services to the top three entries.

A dynamic group of Irish business people are collectively running an online support group for small business via Twitter. The group has grown from two tweeters three months ago to 750 to date. Such is the success of the Twitter group, aptly named #SMEcommunity, that after having 12 informal meet ups around Ireland, it is now beginning another round.

#SMEcommunity is a group set up on Twitter by SMEs for SMEs, with the aim to support, encourage, help and advise each other through social media. It started with a simple tweet on June 16 between Debbie Harper of Tús Nua Designs and Kehlan Kirwin from FocuSMEIreland. Very quickly other Irish business people joined in and by the end of the evening #SMEcommunity was trending in Ireland.
